Specialist Appointment
Today we took Elizabeth to see an Ear, Nose and Throat doctor since Elizabeth has 4 ear infections since October and from the looks of it (according to the doctor) she was on the verge of another one. I stayed home with her while Derrick went to work to teach a 9:00am class. I got to the doctor's office and Derrick was able to make it over in time to go in with us in between his classes.
Her weight: 19 lbs
Her height: 28 1/2 inches
The nurse weighed her and took her measurement. The audiologist called us in to test Elizabeth's hearing. I took Elizabeth into this sound proof room that was somewhat dark. I had to face forward and Elizabeth had to find the sounds. There were two speakers (one on each side of us) and there was a light up animal above each. If she looked towards the sound the animal lit up. There was also a light up Mickey Mouse in the center that would attract her attention so her head was turned back to a central point. At one point she reclined against my chest (she was getting tired) and unfortunately the audiologist asked if I could sit her up which Elizabeth didn't like. The crying then began and she cried on and off. The audiologist did a couple more sounds and then had me bring her outside the room to which they put a little device in each ear to 'take a picture' of how she was hearing.
We returned to the room to see Daddy and the doctor came in shortly afterwards. We were happy to see that her pediatrician's office forwarded the listing of medication she has been on for her ear infections and the ENT doctor was really impressed that their office did that. The doctor looked in her ears and down her throat. She said that she 'had seen two bad cases today but her ears are awful'. She suggested ear tubes. She showed us what it looked like and we were surprised that it was so small. We were picturing something that ran the length of her ear canal.
So hopefully this surgery will make her feel better and she won't have to be on so many antibiotics with all these horrible ear infections.
