Emergency Room x2
Around 2:45am Elizabeth woke up and was crying in her crib. I got up to take care of her and she was fiercly hot. I took her temp and it read 104 degrees! I woke Derrick up and we decided to go to the ER because last time her temp was that high that's what the doctor's office recommended we do.
We got to the ER (which was very quiet this morning) around 3:00am. They took blood and urine samples and also did a chest x-ray. While we were waiting to see if the x-turned out I was showing Elizabeth the x-ray bats that were hanging from the ceiling. They had taken old x-rays and cut them up in the shapes of bats. They also had a couple questions on the white board - such as 'which bat has a finger in it?' We were there until 5:00am. The doctor thought she had a viral infection. They did a quick strep test which came back negative. So they gave her some medicine which brought down the fever and she looked better.
When we got home she wanted to watch Elmo a little bit so we did and then put her back to bed. Derrick had a long teaching day so he went to bed and got up at 6:30. I felt so bad for him because it was his long day for teaching. I called in and stayed home with Elizabeth. Her temperature stayed low all day and around 9:00pm it spiked again to 104. She also didn't want to drink much even though I was trying to get her to drink every chance I could. I even resorted to getting a baby bottle out of storage to see if she would be willing to drink from that.
So we went back to the ER where they gave her more medicine and had a nurse practitioner take a look at her. He told us that the quick strep test isn't 100% accurate and a 3 day culture on it is better. He recommended that we give her antibiotics in case it is strep and to see her doctor. So they gave her a dose of antibiotics and sent us home with a script and 2 doses. We were at the hospital until 1:30am.
